PLOTTING COURSE*

Learn the fundamentals of chart navigation (latitude and longitude, finding a fix) as well as coastal piloting techniques such as, dead reckoning, speed made good, course made good, cross bearing, and course to steer. Practice in the use of tide and current tables as well as several USCG publications throughout the course. Hands-on plotting using full size training charts.

Course held 4 evenings 6:00pm to 9:30pm. Text and Charts included. Navigation tools provided for use during class and are available for purchase. Must bring calculator.

CPR / FIRST AID COURSE

This USCG Approved one-day course encompasses adult one-person CPR and basic first aid practices and meets the requirements for an Original Application for a USCG License. Course Topics:

Sea Experience Requirements

  • Able Seaman - Unlimited
    1080 days of service on deck on vessels operating on the oceans or the Great Lakes.

  • Able Seaman - Limited
    540 days of service on deck on vessels of 100 GT or more, operating in a service not exclusively confined to rivers and smaller inland lakes of the United States.

  • Able Seaman - Special
    360 days of service on deck on vessels operating on the oceans or the navigable waters of the United States including the Great Lakes.

  • Able Seaman - Offshore Supply Vessels
    180 days of service on deck on vessels operating on the oceans or the navigable waters of the United States including the Great Lakes.

  • Able Seaman - Sail
    180 days of service on deck on sail or auxiliary sail vessels operating on the oceans or the navigable waters of the United States including the Great Lakes.
Note: One "day" is considered 8 hours away from the dock.

USCG Renewal Paperwork Assistance

New England Maritime offers assistance, for a fee, in USCG License renewal paperwork. We will supply you with the forms, assist you in completing your sea service forms, and check the paperwork package in its entirety prior to submitting to the USCG REC.
