Welcome to New England Maritime
New England Maritime has been on the cutting edge of maritime training for the past 12 years. New England Maritime is owned and operated by Jim and Leanne Hurley, both USCG Licensed Masters and Coast Guard approved instructors
The philosophy of New England Maritime is to have a better educated mariner, taking the knowledge gained in the classroom and applying it to everyday use on the water.
The success of New England Maritime is a result of the knowledge and dedication of the instructors working with a fine-tuned curriculum based on years of experience. A small student to instructor ratio allows the student to reach their full potential. New England Maritime courses are taught by USCG Licensed Masters who are USCG approved to teach our courses.
May 1996
First in the North East to obtain course approval
New England Maritime was the first in the North East to obtain course approval for the Master Limited License (Launchtender). The course was monitored by Coast Guard personnel and received high praises for meeting their criteria in the areas of classroom instruction, and exam procedures.

May 1997
National Maritime Center approved OUPV and Master 100 Ton Near Coastal Courses
The National Maritime Center approved New England Maritime's OUPV and Master 100 Ton Near Coastal Courses. The course has been monitored by Coast Guard personnel and met the criteria for Coast Guard Approved Courses. Again, we were the first in the Northeast to be approved through the Boston Regional Exam Center to offer training and examinations at our facility for these licenses.

Spring 1997
We worked with the Coast Guard inspectors
Another first for New England Maritime. Spring of 1997 we worked with the Coast Guard inspectors and a local ferry service to provide a Deckhand Orientation Program for new employees to meet Code of Federal Regulations requirements. This program continues to be a great success. We now offer the Deckhand Training with Drug and Alcohol Awareness to several companies.

December 1999
New England Maritime received USCG approval
Working in conjunction with the Barnstable County Fire/Rescue Training Academy, New England Maritime received USCG approval in December of 1999 for Basic and Advanced Fire Fighting. This course not only meets the requirements for licenses of 500 Ton and higher, but also satisfies STCW training certification. Students experience live fire evolutions in addition to classroom lectures. New England Maritime is excited to be able to offer this course to mariners that make their home in the Northeast.

September 2000
Approval from the National Maritime Center
In September 2000, New England Maritime's STCW Basic Safety Training received approval from the National Maritime Center. New England area mariners could now meet new training requirements to retain their near coastal licenses. In addition to live fire evolutions in the Basic Fire Fighting portion of the course, students participate in on-water exercises covering use of immersion suits, inflating a life raft, and basic survival skills.
